When my son was born in 2007, my doula introduced me to baby carriers. The carrier she gave me was too big for us, but I clearly remember that feeling of accomplishment when I was wearing my baby! I loved that I could meet his needs and get up off the couch!

By the time my daughter came along, carriers were a part of our daily life with a baby and big brother. He was a very active boy and his sister happily tagged along in a carrier. I found that I loved different carrier types for different situations:

  • a ring sling during a hot summer with a newborn
  • a mei tai that can be easily tied on the plane
  • a buckle carrier for hikes
  • a wrap for bedtime nursing snuggles

We’ve carried our babies while traveling, moving across the country, naps while we are out and about, as well as just doing the dishes! They’re “big” kids now but my 6 year old still likes a snuggle in a ring sling. Babywearing has been essential in our family for the last 9 years. I became active in a local babywearing group after moving to Seattle and they were my first friends in a new city.

Helping parents gain confidence in their ability to care for their child is one of the things I love most! I’m so appreciative of the women who helped me when my babies were young.  In 2011 I started helping breastfeeding families as a volunteer with La Leche League of Washington. I was one of the founding volunteer educators of Babywearing International of Seattle and volunteered with the group for 3 years. I completed Center for Babywearing Studies certification to expand my knowledge in supporting new families with babywearing and skin-to-skin contact. I’m CPR certified.

I love in-depth learning on babywearing, breastfeeding, attachment, and child development and have become a conference nerd!  I attended the International Babywearing Conference in 2014 and 2016. For the last 3 years, I have attended the Gold Lactation Online Conference which features breastfeeding professionals from around the world. I attended the 2016 Neufeld Institute Conference on attachment and developmental psychology.

During my down time, I enjoy knitting and reading, though most of my reading is with audible books these days! I love watching my kids in their various activities: hockey, swimming, golf, baseball, and ballet.
